Go to a support team. Get med from your dr. Anti depressants help you quit smoking it worked for my aunt. Also if you have children think of them! Dont let your habit come before them respect your body and teach your children to do the same

i don’t know where you are and if you have access to this, but the only thing that worked for my dad who had tried to quit smoking for like 20 years, was he started taking Zyban… it is an antidepressant that has the miraculous side-effect of taking away your cigarette cravings… amazing huh?

I quit cold turkey 6 months ago after being told i had a terminal illness NOT RELATED to smoking but it sure wasn’t helping…. I went for oranges every time I had a craving—they aren’t fatning, they are nutritous and can be eatten ANYWHERE—I would peel them, pull them apart and eat them a small section at a time—usually taking as long to eat the orange as it USED to take to smoke a cigarette… this gave my hands something to do in those times when they would normally be holding a cigarette…I used NO partches, pills or gimicks except those oranges and a LOT of them…but within about 2 weeks, I lowered my orange use and found the cigarette cravings had passed.. Now I can’t stand the smell….

I was able to quit smoking cold turkey about a year ago, but my husband just hasn’t been able to do it. He went to his doctor and was given a prescription for “Chantix.” So far it has been doing him good. They told us that it has about a 59% rate to completely quit. Better than cold turkey (7%) and the patch or gum (19%). It is most likely not covered my many insurance companies but it cost about the same as a months supply of cigs (a pack a day) It cost us $120 for a months supply at Wal-Greens. You might want to check into it.

engaged into something that may distract you from smoking, or else try to chew unsweetened gum or candy in exchange for cigarette craving.. my auncle did that for quite sometime & now he’s free from smoking..

I quit smoking after 23 years on Febuary 3rd this year using the american lung associations quit smoking online assistance. The program is totally free and I think its wonderful.

I have not smoked one cigarette since i quit, and I did it cold turkey. The first 72 hours quitting are the toughest- some people feel like they have the flu- I did, it was rough. But I learned alot from the program, and was ready for how I would feel, and had terrific support from friends I made in the program.

    I wish you luck.

There are a lot of ways to quite smoking but until you are ready to quite yourself nothing will help you. I have tryed everything from gum. patches to being hypnotized but nothing worked and then July 2006 one day I just quite cold turkey. I feel so good now but I did gain weight, that I am now trying to lose.

Ask your doctor about a new drug that just came out called Chantrix. I have had several people tell me that they were previously unsuccessful in quitting with other methods but this has worked!

Go to your doctor and get a prescription for Wellbutrin. 160mg morning and night should do the trick. Wellbutrin is the same exact thing as Zyban, but is cheaper especially if you get the generic version. It worked well for me. Here’s a link to learn more about it:

Chantix is another choice. I don’t have personal experience with this one, but a friend said it worked for her. Howevershe said it caused really strange dreams for her, one right after another all night long. I don’t know. Here is a link for it:

Good luck! I hope this helps.

I quit a couple a day per week, I went from 5 packs a day
to 1/2 pack a day the nicitrol and Ativan an anti anxiety drug ($10) for the final step

I smoked for over 55 years

BUT step #1 in mental, why you want to quit, without it you might have a dz or so failures like I did

  17. abafna says:

Because nicotine is so addictive, it is very hard to stop smoking. But you can. The single most important factor for people who successfully quit smoking was the belief and confidence that they could do it. There is no magical quick fix. Do it when you really decide you want to do it.
AYURVEDIC APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM –
Ayurveda does not rely on one or two techniques. It combines as many as possible and addresses the life of the entire person — body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda views the roots of addictions as mental inertia, which is caused by excess mental activity. An addiction grows because we attempt to calm these excesses through artificial, external means (drugs, food, tobacco etc.) rather than through natural or holistic measures. If one is anxious, angry, worried, impatient, lethargic or uncaring, Ayurveda sees this as an excess of one of the three basic Dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).

    AYURVEDIC TREATMENT
To deal with nicotine, tar and other toxic compounds in the channels, consider these recommendations:

Drink plenty of water, better yet if it is kept in a container made of copper, which scrapes away ama (toxic deposits).
Perform neti kriya morning and night (with the help of a neti pot, allow room-temperature normal saline solution to enter one nostril and flow out the other; then, reverse.).
Practice bhastrika pranayama, morning and night, to expel contaminants in the upper airways (any good hatha yoga manual will have simple instructions).
For nicotine, tar and other toxic compounds already deposited in the dhatus: take three tablets or one tablespoon of triphala every night, before bedtime.
Toning herbs include Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Bala, and Ginseng. Take a constitutionally appropriate rasayana every morning, which will help detoxification. Rasayana ‘Chyavanaprash’ is suitable for person of any constitution.

    DIET –
Do your very best to stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week or longer, as these tend to stimulate the desire for a cigarette. Avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine, and you may gain weight even if you eat the same amount as before quitting. So discipline about diet is extra important now. No one ever said acquiring new habits would be easy!

Take vegetarian low fat diet to increase the Sattvic quality of mind. All fresh foods contains, prana and they increase ojas.

Nibble on low calorie foods like celery, apples and carrots. Chew gum or suck on cinnamon sticks.

    EXERCISE –
Exercise is an obvious way to help avoid gaining weight after you quit. Studies show that smokers have an easier time quitting when they add exercise to their smoking cessation plan. There are some other benefits of exercise including: stress reduction

    HELP FROM YOGA –
Yoga is a form of relaxation and exercise that incorporates stretching, meditation and the knowledge of the body’s full potential. It helps relieve tension and stress, and helps increase your strength and vitality.

    corpse pose (Shavasana) –
The corpse pose, or Shavasana in Sanskrit, is the classic relaxation Yoga Pose, and is most restful pose in yoga. It’s the final pose used in most yoga classes, but can also be done on its own to facilitate meditation or relaxation. It looks deceptively simple, but it is in fact, one the most difficult Yoga Asanas and one which changes and develops through practice.
